CSSM's first year in 2007 was markedly different from that of the last two or three years of its predecessor, Charterhouse Summer School of Music, with a new, exhilarating and ebullient atmosphere. New members of staff contributed greatly to this. Conductors Howard Williams (Symphony Orchestra) and Jerry Lanning (Wind Band) produced excellent concerts at the end of teh week which fully reflected the quality of their tuition. The Coull Quartet gave a superb recital, a fascinating masterclass, and intrigued and delighted the string quartets with their coaching. Jane Roberts' innovative and inspiring course for Novice Strings attracted players who had never before thought of attending a music course of this kind, and David Elwin (staff accompanist) and Ian Partridge not only worked together in the "Art of Singing" classes but also in a recital of the highest quality. All these, together with previous tutors Richard Shaw, Jonathon Trout, Robin Morrish and Ian Humphris, will be with us at Sherborne.

This year we are very pleased that Julie Kennard (Art of Singing) is joining our professional staff. We can assure her and you that at Sherborne we will have outstanding facilities - first class rehearsal rooms, excellent food, intriguing buildings, all in the surroundings of this picturesque medieval market town.

We look forward to welcoming you to Sherborne to the second year of CSSM, a new course, but one that builds on over sixty years of tradition since its founding by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1945.
