Accommodation and domestic arrangements

The majority of the accommodation will be provided in single and double bedded rooms (all of which are non-smoking). Some have wash basins (see Fees). Accommodation will be allocated as far as possible with regard to your preferences, and in order of application. Towels, toiletries, sportswear, stationery, a selection of soft drinks and Millfield memorabilia are available in the school shop, open Monday-Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm. Meals are provided on a Cafeteria system in the centrally placed dining hall. Meals are available for non-residents on payment of the appropriate charge (see Fees). Vegetarian and special diets are available if ordered in advance (See Application Form). The swimming pool will be available at specific times to be published later.

There are normally three formal sessions of ninety minutes daily, commencing at 9.15am, 11.15am and 4.30pm (an early afternoon session is occasionally needed by some courses), and the evening choir is at 7.45pm, with a concert at 9.00pm. In addition, students can take part in other activities organized by both tutors and students outside these sessions. Students may invite friends to all Concerts and, for a small extra charge and by prior arrangement with the administrator, to dinner.

Applications

Applicants should complete and return the form on the last page of the brochure to CSSM. There is no closing date, but early applicants are more likely to find places on the courses, and the accommodation, that they would like. As we are hoping for increased numbers we have reduced the price for sharing a twin bedded room. If you ask for a single room, but would be prepared to share if absolutely necessary, please tick the appropriate box. We would discuss this with you personally. The organisers reserve the right to refuse any applicant without giving any reason. Notice of acceptance will be sent out as soon as possible after the applications are processed. Overseas applicants should send cheques payable in sterling, or use bank transfer.
Cheques should be made payable to 'CSSM at Millfield'. To save cost they will not be acknowledged, but will be paid in promptly.

Fees

Residential Fees per person
Twin rooms£499
Single rooms£540
Single rooms with basin£560
Non-residential Fee
Including lunch & dinner£399
Not including meals£270

All fees include the deposit of £100 and are inclusive of VAT at the prevailing rate. Deposits (which are non-returnable if the applicant is accepted) must accompany the application. Applicants who are accepted should pay the balance of fees due by 1st June 2009. If full payment is not received by this date, acceptance of an applicant may be withdrawn. As no refunds can be made, we recommend that you take out insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances.

Grants and bursaries

are sometimes obtainable from Trusts or Local Education Authorities. CSSM has a small number of bursaries available for students who are not able to afford a full fee. The Summer School is very grateful to those who have kindly donated student bursaries. If you would like to support this scheme, this year or in the future, please contact the Director.

Communication by e mail

reduces administrative time and cost by over 80%. Please tick the box on the application form if we can reliably communicate with you in this way.

Liability of the organisers and insurance

All the information in this brochure is given in good faith. CSSM reserves the right to make such changes as are necessary by circumstances beyond its control, and in the event of any such change being made, its liability to any accepted course member shall not extend beyond the return of such deposit or fee actually paid. Furthermore, all instruments and personal belongings taken to the School during the Course are taken at their owner's risk, and CSSM cannot accept responsibility for loss of, or damage to, any such belongings. ln addition to our insurance recommendations in the paragraph about fees, it is recommended that students arrange insurance for their instruments and personal belongings.
