founded in the 15th century, stands on land which once belonged to Sherbourne Abbey, and still uses some of the Abbey's buildings, including the chapel and library. All teaching rooms are close to the dining hall, bar, coffee lounge and shop, and within a two or three minutes walk of Cheap Street, Sherborne's main thoroughfare. The town, with its picturesque Almshouse and two castles, is situated on the Dorset/Somerset border and is on the direct main line from Waterloo.
Private lessons in Alexander Technique will be available during the week at additional cost. Please book at Reception.
The majority of the accommodation will be provided in single and double bedded rooms (all of which are non-smoking). Some have wash basins (see Fees). Accommodation will be allocated as far as possible with regard to your preferences, and in order of application. Bed linen will be provided, but students are asked to make their won beds and to bring their own towels and soap. Meals are provided on a Cafeteria system in the centrally placed dining hall. Meals are available for non-residents on payment of the appropriate charge (see Fees). Vegetarian and special diets are available if ordered in advance (See Application Form). Sports facilities (including swimming pool) are available in the school's fully equiped Sports Centre close to the Dining Hall.
There are normally three formal sessions of ninety minutes daily, commencing at 9.15am, 11.15am and 4.30pm (an early afternoon session is occasionally needed by some courses). In addition, students are invited to take part in other activities on a voluntary basis and to attend all concerts. Students may invite friends to the Course Concerts and, for a small extra charge and by prior arrangement with the organisers, to dinner.
Reception will be in the Dining Hall and students are asked to arrive between 11.00am and 3.15 on Saturday July 19th. Car parking is available in the central quadrangle. Sherborne station has an hourly service from Waterloo, and is a ten minute walk (taxis are available). Tea will be at 3.45 when students will be welcomed by the Director, The first session will follow immediately. Students are asked to leave by 10.00am on the following Saturday.
Applicants are asked to complete and return the Application Form in the centre of the brochure, or printed off from this website, to CSSM. There is no closing date, but early applicants are more likely to find places on the courses they would like, and the accommodation they require. The organisers reserve the right to refuse any applicant without giving any reason. Notice of acceptance will be sent out as soon as possible after the applications are processed. Please would applicants from overseas ensure that they send cheques payable in sterling.

Deposits (which will be non-returnable if the applicant is accepted) must accompany the application. Applicants who are accepted should pay the balance of fees due by 1st June 200-8. If full payment is not made by this date, acceptance of an applicant maybe withdrawn
As no refunds can be made, we recommend that you take out insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances.
Cheques should be made payable to CSSM. To save cost they will not be acknowledged, but will be paid in promptly.
Teachers and full-time Music Students may, at their own discretion, inquire as to the possibility of obtaining Grants from their own Education Authorities or Trusts. Applications will be considered from persons of musical promise who wish to attend the Course, but who are not able to afford the full fee. Requests for Bursaries must be submitted when making application to join the course.

All the information in this website is given in good faith. CSSM reserves the right to make such changes as are necessary by circumstances beyond its control, and in the event of any such change being made, its liability to any accepted course member shall no extend beyond the return of such deposit or fee actually paid. Furthermore, all instruments and personal belongings taken to the School during the Course are taken at their owner's risk, and CSSM cannot accept responsibility for loss of, or damage to, any such belongings. In addition to our insurance recommendations in the paragraph about fees, it is recommended that sudents arrange insurance for their instruments and personal belongings.
